Hailed high and loud as the oldest and most ethnic zoological garden house in India, Thiruvananthapuram Zoological Park is located at the centre of Trivandrum city. The museum and zoo were established in the year of 1857, by the former Maharaja of Travancore, Swathi Thirunnal Maharaja, who personally had a collection of different animals including elephants in his horse breeding centre. A zoo that started as a recreational centre later developed into a full-fledged zoological garden, with the addition of varied flora and fauna species across India and abroad.
Apart from the animal collection, the zoo also comprises a botanical garden with about 200+ species of trees, orchids, plants etc. The royal outlook of the treetops, towering bamboos, green shady forest landscapes altogether makes it a perfect habitat for the animals and birds, parallelly offering a relaxing ambience for the visitors. The zoological park that spread across 36 acres of land is one of the most beautiful zoos in South East Asia.
Towards the exit of the zoo, there is a snake farm that inhabits wide variants of reptiles like turtles, pythons, vipers, cobras and the main hero, the giant green anaconda. The exotic zoo meanwhile elevated its position to an education centre where the endangered birds and animals are preserved and protected to avoid species extinction.
The zoo gate opens into a world of forestry and wildlife throbbing inside. From the furry Macaque that stares right into your eyes at the entrance gate to the magnificent peacock saluting at you at the exit gate, all the graceful greenery serves delight to your eyes, ears and heart. This sheer manifestation of wildlife shall never miss your trip to Thiruvananthapuram.
