Tali Shiva Temple is one of the ancient temples in Kerala built around the 12th century, also known by the name “Thali Maha Shiva Kshetram”. This sacred temple is among the most loved destinations in Kozhikode district, built by Swami Thirumulapad, the Zamorin King, inside his palace complex. The temple is unbelievably beautiful for the remarkable Kerala architectural patterns, that features woodworks in combination with laterite, forming amazing wall paintings and wooden roof carvings.
Intrinsic brass relief on the walls of the sanctum sanctorum and the brass carvings on the wooden roof are some major attractions that tourists love to cherish on their visit to this glorious temple. The Sanctorum is built in the shape of a chariot with murals all over the walls that depict characters from the ancient mythologies. The most celebrated festival of Tali Shiva Temple would be the New Year in the Malayalam calendar, the day celebrated as “Vishu”. The festival lasts for seven whole days with lighting, rituals, cultural programmes etc.
Every year Tali Shiva Temple hosts the renowned- Revathi Pattathanam during the months of October and November. This ancient assembly of gathering the scholars across the world to witness and be a part of the debates and discussions is a much-awaited event of the temple.
