Srimath Anantheshwar Temple

Srimath Anantheshwara Temple is one of the ancient Hindu temples in Kasargod district believed to have been built in the 8th century A.D. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Anantheshwar with three significant other deities Lord Subramanya, Lord Narasimha and Lord Shiva. This temple is commonly popular by the name Manjeshwar Temple very near to the Karnataka borders. People of Manjeshwar speak Malayalam, Tulu and Kannada because of living in the borders.

Temple has two parts of sanctum sanctorum. One can be seen and accessed by the devotees and the other is behind the altar or simhasana, which is built over an anthill called Rohini or Ruvvani in the Konkani language. Ruvanni is said to be the abode of Sri Vasuki, with live snakes in the underground of the anthill. The entire temple has no cement or flooring. Both the inside and outside has mud cover plastered with cow dung. The rainfalls are allowed to fall on the floors to provide moisture for keeping the snake paths cool and comfortable.

Of the idols of the other deities, the Shiva linga is believed to be self emerged, Swayamboo, and the idol of Nagaroopi Subramanya is recently installed. At the centre, one can see Sri Bhadranarasimha with his consorts- Sridevi and Bhudevi. Visit Manjeshwar temple, one of the most ancient temples renovated in recent times to get the spiritual vibe of the preceding deities. It would be a real distant experience for the structure of the temple, the mud and cow dung flooring and the majestic anthill residing in the temple premises.
