Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple is one of the major tourist attractions in Malappuram district. This Bhagavathy temple dedicated to Goddess Durga in the form of Kiratha Parvathy is quite popular and distinct from all the temples not only in the district but also among the temples within the state, as it has no idol. The offerings and poojas are performed in front of a hole, with 6cm in diameter.
The legend says that Goddess Kiratha Parvathy after giving a miraculous appearance before Adi Shankaracharya, the ancient Indian Philosopher and Saint, disappeared into this hole. The hole is said to have been built by the magical arrow of Lord Shiva himself. Adi Shankara, the 8th-century sage is believed to be the founder of this temple.
Two major ritualistic offerings performed in the temple are Poomodal and Mutturakkal. Poomodal is the ritual of offering flowers to the deity. Devotees must bring wild Thechi flowers for the prayers. Muttarukkal is the other offering, in which devotees bring coconuts to break it off before the sacred hole to attain blessings of Goddess Kiratha Parvathy. Visit the most peculiar temple in all state, to experience a varied sight and worship, distant from the usual visions at temples.
