Panachikkad Saraswathi Temple

Panachikkad village in Kottayam district is quite famous for the Saraswati Temple located there. The temple is dedicated to Saraswathy, the Goddess of knowledge and arts. This temple is widely known as “Dakshina Mookambika” or “Mookambika of the South”, as the temple is situated in the Southern state of India, Kerala. The temple walls are filled with astonishing paintings and intimidating sculptures that clearly depict significant scenes from Indian Mythologies and our ancient histories. 

The major peculiarity of the temple is the annual ritual ceremony of Vidyarambham that is performed every year. Vidhyarambham is translated as the “beginning of education”. Panachikkad Saraswathi Temple is quite famous for this traditional ritual among the Hindu devotees. This ceremony is conducted on the final day of Navarathri festival, on Vijayadasami day. The spring is always filled with water without draining even in extreme summer climates.  Along with the other sub-deities, the Yakshi shrine of Nagayakshi is believed to have many superpowers.
