Nedumkayam Rainforest

Located at a distance of 18 km from Nilambur in Malappuram district there resides the sprawling Nedumkayam rainforest with astonishing views. The rainforest being a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is very rich in its flora and fauna. Several trekking and hiking trails are available in the forests. Three hours trek along the rainforest will lead you right into the Mundakadav waterfalls. There are many attractions within the rainforest that makes it an ideal place for nature lovers. 

Rainforest houses the oldest teak plantation in the world, that dates back to the 1840s. These full-grown teaks majestically stretch out for about 2.3 huge hectares. Bison, tigers, macaques, deer, wild cats etc are among the most seen animal varieties in the forest. Elephants are a major attraction of this jungly forest that even has an elephant taming camp within the premises. 

Another attraction within Nedumkayam Rainforest would be the old wooden rest house made in the colonial era by the British. From the rest house, the travellers are able to enjoy a great view of the surrounding greenery. Travellers are requested to get prior permission from the Forest Department for entering this protected area. A few nature walks within the rainforest is sure to fade all your issues and troubles away offering inner peace and tranquillity.
