Marmala waterfalls is one of the hidden treasures of Kottayam district located within the rubber plantations in Erattupetta-Vagamon route. The waterfall is just 7 km away from Erattupetta and 16 km away from Vagamon, the popular hill station in Kerala. Although this waterfall is not quite famous, there are still people visiting this cascading beauty hidden within the timbers. Falling down from a height of 200 feet, creating a cloudy misty aura above the waters, Marmala waterfalls is popularly referred to as “Enchantress of the jungle”.
The water falling down from a height is splashing over into a 12 feet pond that further runs down to join river Teekoy. Trekking trails are available near Marmala waterfalls. The most exciting part is that, even if you want it or not, you must trekk your way upto the waterfalls as they can only be reached via foot. The road is too hard for the vehicles, cars won’t go in and travel jeeps can let you reach almost 2 km close to the spot. You are on your own way for the remaining 2 km. But trust me, this trekking would be a great experience for nature lovers and above all, the amazing view awaiting you up the hills, amidst the green bushes is totally worth the efforts you put in.
Marmala waterfalls offer the most ideal picaresque setting among the natural wonders for a perfectly relaxing and rejuvenating experience away from the troublesome life. This visual treat is sure to go down your memory line throughout a lifetime. Early monsoon would be the perfect timing to visit waterfalls as then, the early rain showers to enliven the place with waters filling the brims of the pond.
