Mangalam dam was built across Cherukunnath puzha or Cherukunnath River, a famous tributary of Mangalam River. The dam with an average water-holding capacity of 25. 34 million cubic meters, was constructed solely to meet the irrigation requirements of the people in the Palakkad region.
