Mangalam dam was built across Cherukunnath puzha or Cherukunnath River, a famous tributary of Mangalam River. The dam with an average water-holding capacity of 25. 34 million cubic meters, was constructed solely to meet the irrigation requirements of the people in the Palakkad region. The reservoir is a favorite picnic spot of many locals and tourists from different parts of the State and others, for the surrounding forest area.
