Malayalapuzha Devi Temple

Malayalapuzha Devi Temple is one of the few famous pilgrim centers dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. This Bhagavathy temple is located at a distance of 8 km from Pathanamthitta town, built around 1000 years ago. The idol of Goddess Bhadrakali is in her fierce form as she was enshrined in the temple right after she killed the demon, Darika. The idol is almost 5.5 feet high with eight hands spreading out on her sides, made out of concentrated jaggery (Katu Sarkara Yogam).

Ardent devotees fondly refer to the Goddess as “Malayalapuzha Amma”. It is believed that amma resolves all the troubles of her faithful devotees. Many unmarried girls and unemployed youngsters offer prayers before Malayalapuzha amma to get their perfect match and good job offers. Thus, Bhagavathy is renowned for her power to shower blessings and prosperity to worshippers.

There are beautiful paintings and carvings on the walls of the temple. Over years ago, this temple practiced a custom of removing the idol of the Goddess every 12 years. Once, the authorities found it difficult to be removed, the idol stool still without being able to move. That night Bhagavathy gave a vision to one of the authorities that she doesn’t want the idol to be relocated and this idol suits the temple forever. Thus, the custom ceased and the idol stayed since then. Sub-deities of the temple include Brahma Rakshas, Lord Shiva and Nagaraja. Visit Malayalapuzha Devi Temple to attain a peaceful mind and fulfill your dreams.
