Malankara Dam

Malankara dam is built across the Thodupuzha river, which is a major tributary of the Muvattupuzha river. Malankara dam was constructed to make use of the tailwater coming from the Moolamatton powerhouse, for irrigation purposes in the nearby region. Malankara dam in Thodupuzha- Moolamattom road is a must-visit if you are looking for a secluded picnic spot with natural grandeur.

Malankara Dam forms an artificial lake under the Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project. Malankara Lake spreads around an area of 11 square kilometers. Visitors are allowed to do fishing and boating in this artificial lake. 15 acres of land is being used to construct a park near the Malankara dam to increase tourism in the area. By the time the park is complete, tourists would be rushing in to experience the beauty of surrounding greenery and chilly waterbed.

Unlike some of the other dams like Cheruthoni and Idukki arch dam in the Idukki district, the Malankara dam is open to tourists at all times of the year. Visit Malankara dam for its one of the quiet secluded places in the district. Live and enjoy your life in harmony with nature for its serene and curative powers of healing your soul.
