Kozhikode Beach

Kozhikode Beach is a major beach zone, not only in Kozhikode district but in all Kerala, as it was the port where Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, first set his foot on Indian soils. As a result, opening the Spice Route from our local markets to Arabian, Chinese and European markets. Kozhikode beach has such a history associated with the ancient past of our State. The beach is an ideal place for many fun activities like sightseeing, sunbathing, windsurfing, parasailing, beach walking, fishing etc. 

The rhythmic waves of the majestic Arabian sea hitting against the golden sands is a great vision to be cherished in your leisure time. The beach road is also called “Gandhi Road”, after the visit of Mahatma Gandhi to Calicut in 1934. There are numerous other attractions in Kozhikode beach such as the lighthouse and two crumbling piers, that stretches out into the sea since 19th century, a Lion’s Park, offering several rides for the entertainment of the children, a Marine Aquarium, with wide varieties of fishes all set for public display and the Dolphin’s point, where people can actually see dolphins jumping up from the sea leaping towards the sky and majestically falling back into the depths of the ocean. These playful dolphins are extremely wonderful to be with.

There are several restaurants near Kozhikode beach that serve the best seafood varieties. Kallumakkaya or the mussels are the local variety of dish that all food lovers would fall for. Visit Kozhikode beach to experience the pleasure of being at a shoreline that has rewritten the history of our state and the whole nation.

 Freedom Square” commemorates the heroic fight and historic movements for freedom and liberation of our nation that was staged here.This project was conceptualized as an integrated solution, which can revitalize the entire stretch of beach as a nodal point from the perspective of public life as well as historical and leisure travelers and the citizens themselves.
