Kappad beach located about 18 km away from Kozhikode city is an extension of the famous Kozhikode beach. Kappad beach is renowned for being the port in which Vasco da Gama landed with his 170 men for exploring the mythical land of spices and establishing a spice route with the European markets. This later turned the European powers to take control of our lands. Kappad beach has a monument built on the shore that is inscribed as “Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year, 1498”.
