Kallai River originating from the peaks of Western Ghats at an altitude of 148 feet flows through the regions of Cherukulathur, Kovur, and Olavanna for about 40 km before merging with the sea. Kallayi River is linked to the Chaliyar River by a man-made canal on the south of Kallai village. The village was very known in the ancient eras for the timber businesses, it was referred to as “the timber village”. The Arab and Portuguese traders used this canal route for delivering timber.
Most of the timber outlets in Kallai village have shut down as timber lost its value in the markets. Since the commercial trade through the Kallayi river ceased, now it is a great place for tourism offering boating facilities. One can swim their way through the refreshing waters of the Kallayi River for the most rejuvenating experience of a lifetime.
