Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary 

Spreading over an array of scenic islands on the banks of Kadalundi river, there resides an ideal paradise for the bird lovers. Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary in Malappuram district, 19 km away from Kozhikode is a majestic home for many bird species, includes 100 varieties of native birds and 60 species of migratory birds that visit the sanctuary at different times of the year. The bird sanctuary is surrounded by majestic hillocks and the river Kadalundi is flowing in to merge with the Arabian sea. 

The confluence of the river and Arabian sea is locally known as Kadalundi Nagaram. The colourful variety of birds can be seen between the months of December and April. Terns, gulls, herons, sandpipers, sand plovers, red & greenshanks, turnstones, cormorants, whimbrels, and brahminy kites are some of the migratory birds seen during the seasonal months. Kingfisher, Malabar Hornbills, Woodpeckers, Darters, etc. are the native attractions of the sanctuary.

Apart from the bird varieties fishes, crabs and mussels are present in huge numbers in Kadalundi river. A relaxing boat ride through the refreshing waters of Kadalundi river along with the trekking, picnicking and photography facilities makes the bird sanctuary an ideal place for a visit to enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
