Kasargod is a land of numerous forts built at every corner either by the local rulers or by the European powers as part of their military bases, commercial trading, cultural centers, etc. Among the many fort ruins that add charm to the Kasargod district, there stands the unique and distinguishing Hosdurg fort in Kanhangad. This fort was part of the legendary chain of forts built by Somashekara Nayak of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty of Ikkeri.
Even at a distance Hosdurg Fort never fails to catch the attention of visitors with its round attractive structure. Nityananda Ashram founded by Swami Nityananda, with 45 caves carved out of mountain slopes, is the nearby attraction of the fort along with a Poonkavanam Karpooreswara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Even though the fort is in ruins, it prevails the best vibe of our Kerala heritage and culture. One can always go back into our glorious past at Hosdurg Fort.
