Have you ever been to a house full of lamps? For your surprise, Kozhikode presents the most heritage attraction of the district, Deepanjali Lamp Museum. It is the only lamp museum in this entire country. I.C.R Prasad a former lighthouse keeper and engineer is behind this glorious collection of lamps that are literally found everywhere inside the three-room house.
He had a varied service life working at different lighthouses and writing a book about each one of them. It was during his service a friend gifted some lamps that fascinated him and since then he started collecting different types of lamps as a hobby. His extensive collection has varied types of lamps such as primitive brass lamps, wick lamps, Indian heritage lamps, gas lamps, cart lamps, hanging lamps etc. Within the various categories Persian Mosque lamp, Hawadar Panas, Pendant lamps, Hurricane lanterns, Sun-Moon lamps etc are the major attractions of the museum. Visit this strange and unique kind of a museum not to be found anywhere else in the country, but only in Kozhikode district, Kerala.
