Cheruvathur is one of the cosy small towns in Kasargod that attracts many to its vicinity with its captivating greeneries, backwaters, and lovely views. The town is located just 10 km away from the major town of Nileshwaram. The 19th-century poet, Mahakavi Kuttamath, was born in Cheruvathur. His fascinating poems, musical dramas, and poem compilations tremendously inspire other literature buffs and creative people in Cheruvathur town.
As being the birthplace of this famous poet the authorities have changed the name of the town to Kuttamath Nagar on papers. But the place is still popularly known as Cheruvathur among the locals. The name “Cheruvathur” has arisen by compiling three Malayalam words “cheriya pathu ooru”, which is translated as ten small places. The town is quite renowned for its views of Padanna backwaters flowing throughout the region.
The town provides the best of its emerald views from agricultural vegetation and other grasslands along with the freshness of the backwaters. There are indeed lesser buildings or religious centres to visit here yet a lot of families and friends come to Cheruvathur for a short and unique break off from their busy city life.
