Bible Tower, the tallest of its kind in Kerala, in India and in all Asia, is situated in Thrissur district. The Bible Tower, inaugurated in 2007, is one among the three towers in the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours, Thrissur. This tower with a height of 260 feet stands behind the other two bell towers of 140 feet each. The tower and the red cross on the top are visible from any part of the city. It represents the presence and blessings of the Roman Catholic Church upon Thrissur city.
The Bible Tower was dedicated to World Peace by reverend, Dr Pedro Lopez Quintana. Many of the best architects were brought down for the construction of this huge tower. The officials of the Geology Department have certified that the tower is earthquake-resistant. Visitors of the Bible Tower can see a huge collection of artworks inside the tower. One can spot the childhood of Jesus being carved out of wooden pieces, the miraculous healings done by Jesus being painted on stained glass, all the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus as oil paints, paintings of the twelve Apostles on terra cotta, the life history of St. Thomas as mural paintings and the resurrection of Jesus Christ on a canvas.
The tower can accommodate around 250 people, one has to climb the stairs to reach the top of the structure. The entire Thrissur city within a radius of 18 kilometres can be seen from the top of the tower. The impressive artworks, historical and religious significance and the gorgeous view from the top make Bible Tower one of the must-visit sightseeing places in Thrissur district. A visit to the tower can also be accompanied with worship in the Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours and the adjacent bell towers which has a total of eight bells brought down all the way from Germany.
