Bela Church also known by the name, Our Lady of Sorrows Church is one of the most ancient Roman Catholic churches in the Kasargod district. The church built in 1890, dedicated to the Lady of Dolours, is a famous tourist attraction as the church was constructed in ancient Gothic Style of Architecture. The church is located 15 km away from Kasargod town and is under the service and management of the Mangalore Diocese.
The church is quite popular for its Gothic structure. The Catholics under the parish mainly speak the Konkani language more than Malayalam. The annual festival or feast of the church comes around in the month of December and devotees are seen flooding to the church to celebrate and worship the Lady of Dolours. In 1990, the church had huge celebrations for its centenary, including social service programs for the poor and needy people, bits and bits of renovation of the church etc. Visit this ancient church and feel the unity of all religions in the Kasargod district.
