Banasura Hills

Banasura hills are one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats with an altitude of 2073 m above the sea level after Chembra peak. The hilly region lies way off in the State Highway between Kuttiady and Manathavadi. The Mananthavady village at a distance of 25 km from Banasura hills is the nearest town area. The hill is named after one of the mythical characters, Banasura, the son of King Mahabali. The 

trekking trails to the top of Banasura hills are stretching through the dense forests with rich biodiversity. On the way, one can see several animals such as monkeys, deers, elephants and wild boars. 

The thick tropical vegetation along the dense woods has several species of medicinal plants and herbs. From the top of Banasura hills, one can see the famous Banasura Sagar Dam flowing with the most serene waters and tourists enjoying the boat services. The tribal community, Kurichiya are settled at the foothills. They are extremely good with bows and arrows. With nature walks, trekking and stunning views Banasura is a perfect picnic spot within the wilderness of nature.
