Kollam city has a popular recreational urban park known as Asramam Adventure Park, established in the year 1980 on 48 acres of city land. This adventure park is located beside the famous Ashtamudi lake. Park is also known as Ashramam Picnic Village and offers many fun adventures and relaxing settings. There are beautiful mangroves near the park that enhance its glory furthermore.
In 2012, our then Tourism Minister had inaugurated 10 sculptors as part of the 10-day State-level sculpture camp known as “Monsoon sculptures” at an expenditure of 8 lakhs. Aryanad Rajendran’s meditation, V. Satheesan’s storyteller, Sivan’s bundle of slogans, Shenlay’s Do not disturb etc. are the major sculptures that attract the visitors to the park.
Kollam District Tourism Promotion Council facilitates a boating program through the backwaters of Ashtamudi lake. Cruises in houseboats, luxury boats and speed boats are operated by the Boat club near the park. Different boats are taken from the boat jetty nearby.
There is a two-storey palace building within the Adventure park campus. This two-storey building is the British Residency also known as the Government Guest House or Residency Bungalow. Visit Asramam Adventure park to enjoy the fun and thrill of greenery, water bodies, art sculptures blended within the urban setting.
