Arattupuzha Temple

Arattupuzha temple is located in a serene village about 15 km away from Thrissur town. This Sree Sastha temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is believed to be 3000 years old. The annual festival of the temple Arattupuzha Pooram is a grand event that takes place in April/May. Pooram in this temple is a spectacular moment with colorful processions, caparisoned elephants, traditional rituals etc. As part of the grand gala, 41 images of the deities from the neighboring temples are brought to the Sastha temple upon majestic tuskers, termed as “Devamela”, the coming together of Gods.

The seven-day long festival has the most excitement on the last two days with thousands of devotees flooding in to watch the procession and orchestra “Sashthivante Melam”, where about 200 talented artists showcase their orchestra skills. The festival comes to an end with the Arattu of the main deity, where the idol of Lord Ayyappa is taken to the nearby river, Mandaram Kadavu for a cleansing ceremony and at last escorted back to the shrine of the temple.
