Anchuruli Waterfalls

Anchuruli or otherwise spelt “Anjuruli” waterfalls is a tourist attraction situated in the Kanchiyar village of Kattappana in the Idukki district. Anchuruli words mean “five vessels” referring to the five small hills in the area that look like inverted vessels and are clearly visible at a time when the water level is low. The waterfalls have their water resource coming from the Erattayar river through the long circular tunnel spanning about 2 km in length.

Upon the end of this long tunnel, water flows down to form the waterfalls. During the monsoon season, the increased volume of water creates a heavy waterfall and other seasons have comparatively fewer falls. Fishing and swimming are allowed in the waterbed. To an extent trekking facilities are also allowed for adventure enthusiasts. They can trek through the famous trail including Nellipara, Kozhikanam, Para Valavu, Edapalayam, and Chakkupara, after getting permission from the Divisional forest officer in Kanchiyar.

The water coming out of the tunnel is being used for the Idukki hydroelectric project. The forests surrounding the waterfalls with their bird chirps and animal roars is a perfect getaway from the busy city life. The natural setting is sure to unwind the worrying and confused mind. If you are ready for more adventures you could go through the tunnel carefully depending on the level and flow of the water. That would definitely be a varied experience of a lifetime.
