Achankovil River

The breathtaking Achankovil River originates from the hills of Achankovil in Pathanamthitta and flows through the district of Kollam. It is a confluence of three famous rivers; Rishimala, Pasukidamettu, and Rammakkalteri rivers. It is known as Achankovilaaru among the locals. The river is about 128 kilometres long stretching with enriching flora and fauna on the banks. 

There are many ancient temples and religious places on the banks of the Achankovil River. Pandalam, which is considered to be the native place of Lord Ayyappa, is along the river bank. Achankovil Sastha temple or the Dharmasastha temple devoted to Lord Ganesha and Lord Ayyappa is situated on the banks. Thus, they have immense significance during the Sabarimala pilgrimage. 

The word Achankovil means the shrine of Achan or the shrine of the supreme deity. 

Along its flow Achankovil River forms small falls and cascades like Oliyarik and Kumbhavurutty waterfalls. Visit the Achankovil River for the chills and fun it offers.
