Vilangan Kunnu is a panoramic hillock situated in Adat Panchayat in Thrissur district. The hilltop gives a mesmerizing view of Thrissur city and the surrounding greeny wetlands. This private hillock was later transformed into an amusement park where the visitors can have some entertainment along with the gorgeous views down the hill. Vilangan Kunnu is referred to as “Oxygen Jar” of Thrissur city, as it is filled with innumerable species of flora and fauna, lush greenery and tall trees that ornate the place with immense naturality.
This natural wonder transformed into a park has many facilities like 13 exciting rides for children under the age of 7, a pedal boat pool, a wagon wheel etc. The most exciting among all others is the 16D theatre with 180-degree revolving seats. You can literally experience the waterfalls, snowfalls and inhale the fragrances without leaving your assigned seats. In addition to all these adventures, the district tourism department is planning on installing dancing cars for the thrill-seekers.
Ashokavanam is yet another attraction of Vilangan Kunnu, set and maintained by the State Medicinal Plants Board, the Vilangan Trekkers Club and the Ashokavana Samiti. An 800 meters walkway filled with huge trees on both sides is a real charm of the hilltop. The hills spread across 5 acres of land at a height of 80 meters above the sea level. For the astounding bird’s eye view of the surrounding greenery and the entire Thrissur city, four viewpoints are established at different parts of the hill.
With its greater radius of 8 kilometres and unimaginable visionary of the nearby areas, Vilangan Kunnu was once the military base and the observation camp during World War II. It is really exciting to know that the hills were closely associated with the historical events of our state, country and global affairs.
