Alathiyur Hanuman Temple is the only temple in Kerala where the presiding deity is Lord Rama but the temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This unique temple is situated in Tirur town in Malappuram district. According to the myths it is said that the temple establishment and enshrinement of the idol were done by Visistha Muni, one of the Saptarishis (authors of Rig Veda) around 3000 years ago.
The Perumthrikkovil idol of Hanuman has his head tilted to the left towards Rama, to hear his Master’s advice. And Lord Rama is giving him Abhijnana Vaakyam or the cue word for the mission of saving Sita Devi from Lanka. Hanuman is worshipped for his blind devotion to Rama, sacrificing his own life for the mission of saving Sita. Devotees throng to the temple to worship this sacred bond and to receive the offerings, Naivedyam and Aval.
It is believed that all the wishes and desires of the devotees are fulfilled upon praying at this temple. Visit Alathiyur Hanuman Temple in Malappuram district to experience the essence of our mythologies and beliefs.
