Malliyoor Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple

Malliyoor Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple located in Manjoor, Kuruppanthara in Kottayam district is quite a famous pilgrim centre in all Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the elephant endearing God of Hinduism, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathy. It is believed that this temple existed even before the regiment of Perumals in this region. Thousands of devotees flood the temple during the annual festival of Thiruvutsavam, which is an eight-day long celebration marked by special offerings and grand processions.

The most peculiarity of the temple is the unique idol of the deity. The idol of Lord Ganesha is very much different from the idols in other temples. In this idol, the young Lord Krishna is seen sitting on the left lap of Lord Ganesha. It has such a height of significance as it symbolises the unification of two prominent sectors – Vaishnavas (believers of Lord Vishnu) and Shaivas (devotees of Lord Shiva). Lord Ganesha is considered to be the God of wisdom and learning and the remover of all obstacles. Thus, devotees throng to the divine abode of Lord Ganesha to receive blessings and eternal salvation from the karmas and evils of Kaliyuga.
