Malliyoor Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple located in Manjoor, Kuruppanthara in Kottayam district is quite a famous pilgrim centre in all Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the elephant endearing God of Hinduism, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathy. It is believed that this temple existed even before the regiment of Perumals in this region. Thousands of devotees flood the temple during the annual festival of Thiruvutsavam, which is an eight-day long celebration marked by special offerings and grand processions.
The most peculiarity of the temple is the unique idol of the deity. The idol of Lord Ganesha is very much different from the idols in other temples.
