Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple

Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is located in East Fort, right in the heart of Trivandrum city. The prime deity of this temple is Sree Mahaganapathy, Lord Ganesha. The followers who pay a visit to the temple have a unique and distinct opportunity to witness 32 varied forms of paintings and scriptures of Lord Ganesha.

This temple is quite unusual for two rare peculiarities, one is the colour of the temple, a jet black outlook enhancing the majesty of the temple. The second is the unique idol of Lord Ganesha. The most commonly seen idol of Ganesha is his seated position with both the legs crossed in front. Whereas the idol in Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is in a form in which Ganesha sits leisurely with only his right leg folded under him.

The most common kind of “vazhipadu” or offering is a husked coconut which is cracked right in front of the temple. This coconut cracking vazhipadu symbolises the devotee overcoming all the hurdles that come in the way of achieving the innermost desires. There is a common belief that Lord Ganesha fulfils the most impossible wishes and helps to overcome the hardest obstacles. The serene and calm ambience of the temple offers peace and tranquillity in the minds of worshippers and tourists.
