Pallikkunnu Church is one of the major Christian pilgrim centres in Wayanad district. It is a Latin Catholic Church built at a distance of 14 km away from Kalpetta. The church is dedicated to “Our Lady of Lourdes”. The church built around 1908 by Father Jefreno is peculiar in its architectural patterns and is surrounded by lush greenery and grass meadows. The annual festival of the church takes place in the month of February that usually lasts for 16 long days. From February 2nd to 18th a lot of devotees throng the church courtyard and worship Holy Mary on the feast.
10th and 11th are the main festival days with processions and deities taken out of the church accompanied by chenda melams, colourful umbrellas and much more grandeur. This Latin Catholic church had many sacred rituals and practises that heavily resembles the ones carried out in Hindu temples. A visit to the heavenly abode of Our Lady of Lourdes would be a blessing as the serene ambience and spirituality reset your mind of all troubles and pains.
