Mananchira Lake is literally a man-made pond built right at the heart of Kozhikode city spreading around 3.94 acres of the water body. The pond is fed by the natural spring. It is rectangular in shape and built in the 14th century. It was part of the royal lifestyle as the Zamorin ruler, Mana Vikrama, bathed himself in this bathing pool. In recent years the municipal council of Calicut has prohibited all kinds of bathing and other activities in the pond for preserving the water body wholly for the purpose of resourcing drinking water to the needy people in Kozhikode.
In 1994, a park complex named “Mananchira Square” was constructed on the banks of this man-made lake that attracts many tourists. The beauty of the lake along with the charm of the park is an ideal place for an evening outing along with your family and friends. Experience the best of things Kozhikode district has to offer for the local, national and international tourists.
