Chimmini Dam

Chimmini Dam, also known as Chimmony Dam, is the largest dam in Thrissur district, situated in Echippara village. The construction of the dam across the Kurumali River, a tributary of Karuvannur, began in 1984. But the dam became fully functional by 1996. Chimmini Reservoir is an artificial lake built across an area of 10 square kilometres with an average depth of 20 meters. The reservoir, dam, and Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary are surrounded by the hills of Western Ghats making them perfect spots for a relaxing outing in the beds of nature.

The dam was constructed to provide water for all irrigation needs of the people in Thrissur. But in later years, Chimmini Dam became the favourite picnic spot for recreational activities such as boating in the refreshing, serene waters of the dam, along with trekking facilities through the forests of Chimmini  Wildlife Sanctuary. Surrounded by bewitching hills, dense forests, and charming waterbeds, the Chimmini dam could be explored to unwind your troublesome life and feel energized. Nature is always there to rent you the energy that freely flows into the humans, who are willing to sit and embrace nature in its purity.
