Kuruva Dweep or Kuruva Islands are a cluster of islands in the midst of the Kabani River in Wayanad. It is probably the only set of islands surrounding my freshwater in all of Kerala. This river delta is uninhibited by the human population but tremendously inhabited by rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants, and evergreen trees. These dense forests are only approachable via fiber boats or bamboo rafts made by the tourism department of the State Government. The rafts made of bamboo offer a varied boating experience to tourists.
Early December to mid-May is the perfect time to visit the islands. Monsoon seasons with heavy rainfalls and rising water levels are highly dangerous so the entry is closed during the rainy seasons. Spreading an area of 925 acres of land within the river, it is the most pristine and unexploited land without human and technological interventions, thus it is a perfect spot in conversation with nature. One can see several bamboo stairs and steps along nature walks through the islands.
Each of the islands requires one or two hours to see them as a whole. Kuruva Dweep with its most bewitching natural beauties, sightseeing, forests, birds, and surrounding serene waters is definitely the most visited destination in Wayanad district. The Tourism Department of the State Government takes enough care to sustain the naturality of the islands.
