Pookode Lake

Pookode Lake is one of the smallest yet highest freshwater lakes in Kerala. Flowing through the mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters, Pookode Lake is a precious gem on the hilltop. It is located 15 km away from Kalpetta and 2 km from Vythiri accessible via roadways. The surrounding hills, forests, and green meadows make Pookode Lake one of the best picnic spots in Wayanad. Panamaram rivulet originates from this freshwater lake and flows further down and down to join the Kabani River.

Speed boats and other boating services are particularly enjoyed by visitors. On the smooth and serene journey through the pristine waters, one can see blue lotuses and blue lilies scattered here and there in the water bed. The blue flowers are definitely the best of all the sights the lake has to offer. Numerous freshwater fishes, especially a species of cyprinid fish, Pethia Pookodensis, is abundantly grown in this natural spring.

Other than the stupendous views from lakes including the wild animals from the neighboring forests, one can also visit the freshwater aquarium and handicraft shops situated on the banks of the lake for an extra something. You get to explore a lot on your trip to Pookode Lake, so never miss the chance. Take a leap for this amazing journey that you will always remember.
