The famous Pandavan rock or Pandavan para is located in Urukkunu in the Alleppey district. The rock has a strong connection with the mythology of Mahabharata. It is believed that the five sons of King Pandu, Pancha Pandavas, once stayed in this rock cave as a hideout upon their 14 years of exile in the forest. Since then, the rock came to be known as “the rock of the Pandavas”. It is an ideal picnic spot located within nature. Like the other rock caves, Pandavan rock is not a hollow cave filled with pictographic scripts. It has transformed itself into a hillock upon the passing of years and centuries.
Pandavan rock is such a treat to the eyes with adjoining hills, surrounding greenery, the charming view of Kallada dam etc. You can only reach the place through walking and climbing rocks, yet it is an easy climb to Pandavan rock. Youngsters would be delighted with this easy adventurous climb to an enormous beautiful view waiting on top of the rock. On the base of the hills, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Visitors can also worship in the temple upon the trip to Pandavan rock. The challenging trail through the forests, climb on the rocks etc. are completely worthy of the spectacular view from Pandavan rock. Never miss the view of hills, valleys, mountain ranges and Kallada dam, if you are in the vicinity of the Alleppey district.
