Pathiramanal

Pathiramanal, “sands of the night” or “midnight sands”, is an island surrounded by Vembanad lake. This natural paradise is only accessible by boat. A 30 minutes speed boat ride from Alappuzha or a one and half hours of motorboat ride from the Muhamma-Kumarakom boat jetty can reach you to this scenic beauty tucked in between Thanneermukkam and Kumarakom. The island that spreads around for about 10 acres is abundant in bird varieties. There are about 91 species of local birds, common and endangered ones and 50 species of migrating birds that inhabit the island. Thus, this serene spot is a heaven for bird lovers.

Pathiramanal also has many flora and herbs that have medicinal properties for healing wounds and other ailments. There are no people living on this island, thus visitors can enjoy a peaceful outing without getting overcrowded or disturbed by the hawkers. Since there are no inhabitants, no special facilities like washrooms or comfort benches or restaurants are available. But you need not worry about it, because Pathiramanal is only an hour away from the town areas, it’s not like you are stuck there for a long period of time. If you go prepared, it is absolutely fine.

Pathiramanal is a perfect tourist spot for its nourishing waters among the wilderness of woods. If you visit the island in perfect timing you can hear a thousand chirpings of the birds. It is a wonderful place to enjoy life in harmony with nature. All you have to do is get some time from your hectic schedules, get on a speedboat, reach Pathiramanal and be wild.
