Sargaalaya Arts & Crafts Village

If you are excited about fine arts and crafts there is a special initiative made by the State Tourism Department of Kerala in Kozhikode district, Sargaalaya Arts & Crafts Village, located on the banks of Iringal River. Spreading across 20 acres of land, inaugurated in 2011, the project not only aims at increasing tourism but also encouraging local artisans by facilitating the display and sales of their handmade crafts that showcase their skilled craftsmanship.

Sargaalaya Arts & Crafts Village offers a golden opportunity for tourists to witness live craftsmanship and artisans at work. You can sit with them and ask questions about the methods and techniques used. The crafts village has more than 60 stalls selling different ethnic handicrafts made of coconut shells, coir, banana fibers, bamboo sticks, palm leaves, husks, etc. If you are interested in learning this unique traditional art and crafts, you can join The Crafts Design and Technology Development Centre that facilitates training for the enthusiastic people who wish to learn the techniques of traditional handicrafts.

It is a great venture for the local artisans as they can impart knowledge to the tourists, sell their authentic products to the art & craft lovers, and retain their brand value. A visit to Sargaalaya village is totally worth it, as it has so much to offer including decent souvenirs for loved ones back at home.
