Poopoli Flower Show which usually takes place in January is the largest flower show in Kerala conducted as part of the new year celebrations. The venue for this flower show is Ambalavayal Agricultural Research Centre located in Ambalavayal, Wayanad. The mesmerizing views of the multicoloured gardens and spreading fragrance is a fascinating experience for the visitors. Almost 10 acres of land in the Research Centre is occupied with varied types of gardens displayed out for the audience. Some of the major highlights of the flower show are Moon Garden, Vertical Garden, Pond with Lilies, Multicoloured Garden etc.
Moon Garden is specifically set for white-coloured flowers. More than 100 species of white flowers like jasmine, white hibiscus, thumba, crape jasmine, marigold, daisy, salvia etc are seen in Moon Garden. Rows and rows of flowers and plants vertically arranged is the peculiarity of Vertical Garden. The artificial ponds filled with water lilies are an added charm that never fails to catch the attraction of the visitors. Apart from the flowers a collection of the rare cactus plants called cactarium is a surprise at the flower show.
Along with the flower and plant exhibitions, there are seminars and discussions conducted on the latest methods and techniques in horticulture and floriculture. Interested people can attend these seminars to get enlightened with the methods of cultivating flowers. Almost all the previous years there were more than 100 stalls with flower displays that kept on increasing every year.
