Govinda Pai Memorial

Govinda Pai Memorial is a heritage site in Kasargod district dedicated to the famous Kannada Poet, Govinda Pai. Kasargod is the birthplace of this famous poet who is one of the greatest modern poets in India. Kasargod is a place filled with artists, creators, poets, etc. yet popularly known to be the native place of Govinda Pai. He has written many renowned poems and prose works. 

Govinda Pai was the first writer to be honoured with the title of “Rashtra Kavi” or “Poet Laureate” by the Madras Government. It is said that he knew almost 25 languages including Indian and foreign like Tulu, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Konkani, Persian, Japanese, English, Greek, etc. He is known to have translated many Japanese poems into Kannada. 

A memorial built in the birth town of this famous Kannada poet in Manjeshwar, Kasargod is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the district. There is also a Government College in his name that was established in the year 1980. It is such a fascinating and inspiring visit for all the artists and literature enthusiasts out there.
