Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum 

Ayurveda is one of the most ancient medicinal systems in the world, contributed by the sages of India. This 5000-year-old tradition had lost its significance by the coming of Allopathic medicines with doctors and nurses in white coats. But in recent years, people started looking back to these Ayurvedic medicinal systems and the miraculous treatments out of herbal medicines naturally made from our surroundings. For the people who are interested in Ayurvedic and the legacy of this glorious traditional heritage in India, Thrissur is showcasing before you, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum !!!

The museum is a hidden treasure established in the year 2013. The establishment and further maintenance of the museum are carried by the famous Ashtavaidyan Thaikkattu Mooss Vaidyaratnam Group of Institutions. It was built as part of the Centenary celebrations of E.T. Neelakandan Mooss the founder of Vaidyaratnam, a living legend in the field of Ayurveda. A visitor stepping inside the museum is taken into a world unknown to the massive viewer. There are exhibits, scripts, texts, sculptures, etc that depict the evolution of Ayurveda from the ancient period to the contemporary era. 

The whole museum is divided into three separate sections; Acharya Gruham, the main museum complex, and a digital theatre. Acharya Gruham is almost 80 years old and it is still the consulting room of Neelakandan Moss. The main museum complex has sculptures of great Acharyas and their valuable contributions to the field of Ayurveda are depicted. There is a collection of 300 medicinal plants, which the visitors find exciting to watch. There are galleries within the complex that depict the history of Ayurveda, originating from the Vedic era to Sahitha to Sangraha to the medieval era moving forward to the contemporary Ayurvedic traditions in Kerala. 

The huge library has a priceless collection of the oldest manuscripts and ancient texts about Ayurveda and its various branches used by the Ashtavaidyas. The digital library has enough more CDs, along with audio-visual shows and presentations depicting the origin, growth and development of Ayurveda in India. The show is conducted in a hall that has the maximum capacity of accommodating 40 people at a time. All in all this Ayurveda museum is an amazing place to visit on your trip to Thrissur, as the place is a real flashback to the ancient era prosperous with Ayurvedic systems and practitioners contributing for the betterment of this natural medical system.
