Kowdiar Palace, one of the popular palaces in Trivandrum was built by Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal in 1934 for the pallikettu (wedding) of his sister, Karthika Thirunal Lakshmi Bayi. The palace is a three-story building with about 150 rooms stretching across the palace. It has six steeples built at an enormous height that are visible from any part of the city.
The palace and the properties were equally divided among the two Travancore queens, Sethu Lakshmi Bayi and Sethu Parvathi Bayi after 1971. Since then the palace was the residence of the members of the royal family till date. Thus, the palace is not accessible to visitors at all times. A lot of personal items of the ancient inhabitants of the palace are stored and exhibited at the visiting hours.
The palace resides in the city of Kowdiar which is profoundly costly and clean. Thus, most of the elite members desire to find a place of settlement in this locality. There are posh shopping centers, restaurants, and lots of greenery in Kowdiar. The architecture of the building is a hybrid combination of Kerala and Dravidian styles. Visit Kowdiar Palace for the visual treat it offers in the serene, green environment.
