Sultan Bathery is the largest town in the Wayanad district with enough and more historical relevances and associations in combination with the rich natural wealth and scenery. There are many historical sites and museums that showcase the old heritage of the city, the district, and the whole Kerala style of living. Talking about the greenery, Sulthan Bathery is embedded with natural wonders of fascinating hills rising up from the valleys, long stretching green meadows, rushing streams forming waterfalls, jungly woods with rich biodiversity, trekking trails, nature walks along with the forests and peaks, etc. 

This commercial hub of Wayanad received its name from Tipu Sultan, the Mysore ruler, who during his invasions used the 13th century Jain Temple as his battery, which is a huge storeroom for keeping his ammunition. Certain prehistoric caves like the Edakkal Caves are wonderful crowd-pullers that attract thousands of tourists in each holiday season.
