Peermedu Hill Station

Peermedu, residing amongst the rolling hill stations, mountains, plantations, streaming waters and pine forests, is one of the purest and pristine hill stations in Kerala. Peermedu hill station is on your way to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary at an altitude of 915 m above sea level. You enter the borders of Peermedu with a strong aroma of different spices, tea and coffee plantations stretching from miles to miles cultivated upon carefully split descending steps. 

Peermedu is uncomparably a heaven within the natural wonders. This hill station obtained its name from a Muslim Sufi saint, Peer Mohammad. He was said to be the first spices trader in the region with a strong connection with the Royal Travancore Family. This pleasant hill station was known as “the hill of peer” was once the summer retreat of the Maharajas of Travancore, they visited the hill station for relaxation. 

Peermedu is indeed a blend of different cultures as it is home to three major tribes; Malapandaram, Malayarayan and Orali. The tribal people belonging to each tribe live in harmony with each other working together in the plantations, estates and factories. The climate of this region is more or less the same throughout the year with its cool breeze. Once you are in Peermedu, Nallathanni, Panchalimedu and Valanjanganam are the streaming waterfalls to be visited for a more refreshing outing.
