Madayipara Hills located near Pazhayangadi village in Kannur district is a mesmerizing hillock spreading across 700 acres of land. It is commonly referred to as “the land of flowers” as these flat-shaped hills have different species of flowers in varied colours attracting butterflies. Madayipara Hills have a population of 300 flowering plants and more than 30 species of thick grass. Thousands and thousands of blooming buds with colourful blossoms are sure to allure the biggest collection of 150 different species of butterflies, including the biggest Atlas butterfly, feeding on the nectars of the flowers.
The butterflies on their rainbow shades and eye-catching designs are sure to captivate the minds of the tourists. This green meadow hill with astonishing flowers is heavenly bliss for nature lovers. There are huge varieties of migratory and common birds that call Madayipara Hills their home. The most enthralling feature of these hills is that they transform their appearance according to the seasons. They simply change the outlook as we change our attire for an occasion. Thousands of visitors flock to Madayipara to witness this fascinating phenomenon.
During the spring season, the entire hillock is filled with blossoms in varied colours offering a beguiling multicolour vision, while the summer gives in the golden shade of the sun with knee-high grasses. The autumn season paints the whole enormous landscapes in crimson red and the monsoon is all up with the rainfalls laying the most magnificent green carpet over the 700 acres of land. In addition to this enchanting visionary, Madiyapara also has a Jew pond owned by the ancient Jew settlers. Anyway, the peculiarity of the Jew pond is that it has the shape of a handheld mirror that reflects the clear blue sky on a sunny day and twinkling stars at night.
A one time visit to this Madayipara hills would be incomplete, I suggest four visits in four different seasons to get the whole picture and essence of its dazzling beauty.
