Paithalmala Hill Station

Paithalmala Hill Station is a bewitching hillock elevated at an altitude of 4500 feet above sea level. It is the highest peak point in the Kannur district. One can trek your way onto the hill station through the dense woods of Kodagu forest. The 6 km long trekking trail starts from Paithalmala valley stretching through the woods to the grasslands and ends at the watchtower on top of the hill. All the way up is filled with various species of flora and fauna dwelling in the dense forests of Kodagu. While walking through the green meadows your feet could experience the height rising and rising to reach the watchtower, which offers the most astonishing of the views uphill.

One can have a magnificent view of the Coorg forests in Karnataka on one side and the Paithalmala valleys on the other with ponds and streams flowing through. The best time to visit Paithalmala is the monsoon and summer seasons for very inevitable reasons. During the monsoon season, the hilly landscape gets enough rainfalls and has the most majestic look of the green carpets. Yet after the monsoon, the grasses sort of overgrows making it really difficult to walk through. There are times when the grass grows upto 7 feet and you get lost on your way. In December the forest watchers set out the fire for the grasses. After two weeks, the landscapes are all set to be explored again. A trip to Paithalmala hill station is heavenly bliss for the trekkers and nature lovers who are so ready to enjoy the natural scenic beauty from an elevated height.
