Ready to explore the world?

Lakkidi Viewpoint

Lakkidi Viewpoint, most commonly referred to as the “Gateway of Wayanad”, is located at a distance of 33 km from Wayanad City. Elevated at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level, Lakkidi Viewpoint is the second-highest peak that receives huge rainfalls in the whole world. The long drive to the peak point is quite fascinating and adventurous with nine enormous hairpin curves, greenery hills, streams, and waterfalls that offer the best stopovers. Upon reaching the top, Lakkidi Viewpoint presents a breathtaking view of the valleys and hills along with the tiny little cars whirling over the hairpin curves.

A huge Ficus tree with a chain around its trunk is a tremendous crowd puller that attracts many to its vicinity. It is said that once a British engineer with the help of a local guide explored these hilly terrains and discovered these exciting places. After the discovery, the British killed the guide to take credit for himself. The spirit of the guide stayed around the area and caused a lot of accidents and haunted many. As a result, a local priest blessed the entire region and locked the spirit on the Ficus tree with a chain that is still visible to the visitors. The top hill views, the traveling adventures, and stopovers make Lakkidi Viewpoint a perfect tourist destination in Wayanad.
