Spread across an area of 7.5 square kilometers, Anamudi Shola National Park is one of the famous tourist spots in the Idukki district. It was in 2003 as part of the Anamalai sub-cluster, Anamudi Shola, comprising Mannavan Shola, Idivara Shola, and Pullardi Shola, was raised as a National park. Among all the surrounding protected areas like Mathikettan Shola National Park, Pampadum Shola National Park, Eravikulam National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuar,y etc, Anamudi Shola Park as the name suggests is at the highest altitude ranging from 2150 meters to 2305 meters of hills and peak points.
It is a cluster of tropical hill forests, wet temperate forests, and moist deciduous forests. This National park is rich in its biodiversity with a total of 174 species of herbs and shrubs, 62 species of trees,s and 38 species of climbers. You can spot various animals like leopards, civet cats, wolves, Indian Bison, wild boars, elephants, flying squirrels, wild dogs etc. The peculiarity of this natural splendor is that on nature walks tourists can interact with these animals and take pictures of them in close proximity.
In addition to the animals and tree varieties, one can also see rare birds flying around, over 200 species of moths, 100 species of vibrant butterflies, and even reptiles slithering through the woods. Anamudi Shola National Park offers the best trekking trails and sightseeing including some waterfalls and rivers. A day spent in the lap of Mother Nature is just like spending a day in heaven.
