Attappadi Reserve Forest

Attappadi Reserve Forest is 250 square kilometres protected forest area, that serves as one of the most visited tourist destinations in Palakkad district. The reserve forest resides in the valleys of Nilgiri hills, bordering the Silent Valley National Park. This informal buffer zone is quite famous for the breeding of Black Goats. The Government Goat Farm within the reserve forest is known for the “Attapadi Black” breed. 

As looking at the geology, Attapadi is known for seven types of rocks, in which Gneisses is the most predominant rock. Three tribal communities inhabit Attappadi Reserve Forest they are, Irulas, Mudugas and Kurumbas. The Malleswaram peak on the hills is considered to be a massive Shivalinga and the famous Shivaratri festival is celebrated with grandeur.
