Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary

Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary located at a distance of 95 km away from Palakkad town is one of the most unexplored yet beautiful and charming national Parks in all Kerala. Built-in 1973, spread around an area of 285 square kilometres in Chittur Taluk, Palakkad, attracts many to its vicinity with its overwhelming serenity and captivating ambience. This Wildlife Sanctuary with its rich biodiversity stands amidst hilly terrains in between Nelliyampathy and Anamalai ranges. The picaresque landscapes, dense forests, deep jungle roads and different varieties of flora and fauna make it an ideal spot for being with nature and feel the caressing embrace of mother nature. 

This protected ecological spot gives shelter to 39 species of mammals, 16 species of amphibians, 268 species of birds, 61 species of reptiles, 47 species of fishes, 1049 species of insects and 124 species of butterflies. The most famous attraction of this Wildlife Sanctuary would be the Kannimara Teak Plant, which is over 350 years old, yet standing still with majesty, as the ruling king of all trees in the sanctuary. In 2010, Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as part of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, that exists for the protection of the endangered animal. All the natural beauties within the borders of this sanctuary can be enjoyed on a jeep safari organised by the State Government Forest Department.
