Most popularly known as “the princess of Arabia Sea”, Cherai beach is one of the most visited coastal areas in all Kerala. Cherai beach situated at a distance of 30 km from the heart of Ernakulam city is frequently visited by the locals and tourists from different parts of the country and abroad. It is at the north end of Vypin island. The beach is well known for its natural beauty of clear waters, accompanied by the coconut groves lined on the beach shore. Cherai beach hosts the ideal blend of Arabian sea and Kerala backwaters.
The shells found on the seashore are very unique and have a special charm in themselves. The coastline of Cherai beach stretches upto 15 km making it different from the other beaches in Kochi. One can see numerous Chinese fishing nets hanging on the teak and bamboo poles trapping the fishes from the ocean. Beautiful sunrise and sunset with the background of Chinese fishing nets and surrounding greenery is indeed a spectacular sight.
There is a park built on the seashore making Cherai beach a perfect picnic spot for family and kids. The children can enjoy the rides while the elders can have a relaxing time on the beach benches. Speedboats and water scooters can be taken for rent to enhance the fun on the beach. Swimming and sunbathing are also immensely enjoyed by visitors.
