Mahatma Gandhi Beach & Park, situated at a distance of 2 km from the city of Kollam, is one of the most recreational centres for the local and international tourists. It is an amazing spot that blends the blue gleaming water waves and cool breeze of the seashore with the well-maintained park. The place provides such a charming environment, where the tourists can sit, play, enjoy and relax under the shining bright sun.
The exact place can be said to be Kochupillaimodu and the park was inaugurated in 1961. It is a perfect spot for a long stroll along the beach shore, to witness the enchanting beauty of the Arabian Sea, which is more appealing at the time of early dawn and late dusk. It is a very much safe place for swimming and bathing. This beach plus park setting provides a rejuvenating experience for all the peace-loving tourists as these locations are wonderful for mindless strolling.
There is a Jalakanyaka Mermaid Statue (27’ tall) at the park compound, which is a landmark feature of the Gandhi park and beach. It is one of the three enormous mermaid statues in the whole of India. Visit the beach and park, which can be enjoyed by kids and adults both alike.
Mahatma Gandhi Beach is also known as “Kollam beach”, which is renowned as the ‘best wedding destination’ in Kollam. The beach was a port at once where Chinese ships came in for trades. There are still traces of Chinese commerces, like Chinese fishing nets, Chinese water pots etc.
